When we land in a new position, we do all we can to provide the best results. As it's a new opportunity, we try to make employers feel excited about our performance. However, sometimes, jobs are not what we expected. In fact, job opportunities may seem more attractive in ads than in real life. For that reason, when we get a new job, we should consider a few things.
Since the average worker spends about 40 hours per week at work in the US, having a job that is good for your health is essential. Overwork can have adverse effects on your health, and it makes workers perform poorly.
In 2020, employers care more about workers' wellbeing and try to make them feel comfortable. But, how do you know if your current position is filling your needs? If you're thinking about quitting and getting a new job, these reasons will help you know when it's time to leave.

For people who need their ideas to flow, it's essential to be in a place where they can express themselves. If they can't express their thoughts, how are they supposed to focus? For example, imagine a UI/UX designer that can't use their creativity at work. As they can't express themselves and be who they are, they won't create eye-catching designs.
Analyze the situation and try to figure out why you can't be yourself. Is it because of your boss? Or because the job is simply not right for you? Try to find a solution. Ask the manager for a new position. But, if there's no way to solve the issue, don't let your job change who you are—go ahead and quit.
2 | The Company Doesn't Allow You To Grow
Have you ever imagine being in the same position for years and years? Not having growth opportunities is among the main reasons for leaving a job. And in 2020, being able to grow is essential. Since the competition has become tougher, the need for developing your skills has increased.
When you get a promotion, you can develop not only your hard skills but your soft skills. It helps you stay relevant and prepare for future opportunities. On the other hand, when you can't grow, you fall behind the competition.
If the company doesn't provide you with growth opportunities, there's nothing to think about—leave. Staying in the same position for years will make your life monotonous. As you do the same day after day, you lose motivation and are not on the right path to achieve happiness.
3 | The Company Doesn't Promote Professional Development
Education is the new currency, and if you can't have professional development, you're wasting your time. Being in a company that doesn't promote professional development will have adverse effects on your career. As you won't update your skills, your chances of getting a better job decrease.
Also, when companies don't allow their employees to stay relevant, productivity is lost. As there's a loss in employee satisfaction, performance is awful. If the company doesn't care about your professional development, you'd better start looking for a new job.
4 | Your Current Position Makes You Feel Overwhelmed
If you work day and night trying to accomplish all the tasks and you are always in a bad mood, maybe your job is not right for you. When your responsibilities affect your performance and you feel overwhelmed, it's time to pause. Try to clear your mind and figure out what's happening. Being stressed continuously has negative effects on your life and health.
If you realize that you can't handle all your responsibilities, you can ask for help. It can be bad for your pride, but your body and mind will thank you. If there's no chance of solving the situation, you should start writing your resignation letter.
5 | You Have No Benefits
According to a survey, 72 percent of professionals claim that having more perks would increase their job satisfaction. When employees have great benefits, they feel valued and motivated. If your company doesn’t show that it values you, don't hesitate to look for a new job.
Nowadays, several companies are making eye-catching job offers to attract and retain valuable employees. As it allows workers to feel comfortable at work, they can provide better results, and companies increase their profits. For example, companies like Nintendo provide employees with benefits like parental leave, health and dental insurance, retirement savings, and tuition reimbursement. So, why work for a company that doesn't make you feel valuable?
6 | You Have Lost Your Passion
If you feel that your current position doesn't make you feel passionate about what you do, it may be the right time for leaving the job. When employees love their jobs, they always keep a good mood and feel happy. In fact, when people love what they do, they feel like they're not working.
Feeling no passion for your job is an excellent reason to look for a new position. Try to see if you can get a promotion or get a new role that makes you feel excited. Otherwise, even getting up in the morning will be a challenge.
7 | You Can't Use Your Strengths
Have you ever wonder if your current position allows you to use your strengths? When workers can use their best skills, they can provide the best results.
